We are deeply saddened to share that a UC Davis student died following a collision between a car and a bicycle on Hutchison Drive, near the West Village housing area. The collision occurred just before 3 p.m. April 13. The student was transported to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center, where they were pronounced deceased.
Our thoughts are with the student’s family, friends and all who are affected by this tragic loss.
The UC Davis Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is leading the investigation of the incident in coordination with other agencies.
UC Davis uses postvention guidelines to inform how it responds to the sudden death of a student, guided by the postvention committee. This includes outreach, coordination and case management support for students impacted. The guidelines emphasize family, student and community support. UC Davis is not releasing the student’s name at this time in deference to the family.
Students in need of immediate mental health support can call Student Health and Counseling Services at 530-752-0871. Faculty and staff can reach out to the Academic and Staff Assistance Program, which serves the Davis and Sacramento campuses.
